PTISLAB

PTISlab 24 is the latest version to the PTISlab series of programs which rapidly became the de facto standard for designing foundations on expansive and compressible soils.  PTISlab 24 can be used to design or analyze both post-tensioned and conventionally reinforced slabs-on-ground for single and multi-family residential and commercial foundations on expansive and compressible soils.  The expansive soil analysis in PTISlab 24 is compliant with the Post-Tensioning Institute’s (PTI’s) DC10.5-24 “Standard Requirements for Design and Analysis of Shallow Post-Tensioned Concrete Foundations on Expansive and Stable Soils”.  The compressible soil analysis in PTISlab 24 is compliant with the procedure included in PTI’s “Design of Post-Tensioned Slabs-On-Ground, 3rd Edition Manual”.

Some of the features of PTISlab are:
  • Design and Analysis of slab-on-ground foundations on both expansive and compressible soils.
  • Calculation and analysis of uniform thickness slabs, sometimes referred to as California flat slabs.
  • Analysis of a slab's capacity to support on interior line load or concentrated point load
  • On-screen warning messages for out of compliance conditions (Design Compliance).
  • On-screen warning messages for elements of the designed foundation that do not meet PTI's recommendation (PTI Exceptions).

PTISlab 24 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI's DC10.5-24 Standard.  

PTISlab 3.5 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI’s DC10.5-19 and DC10.5-12 Standards.

PTISlab 3.2 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI 2008 Standard.

PTISlab 3.1 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI’s 2007 Standard.

PTISlab 3.0 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI’s 2004 Standard.

PTISlab 2.0 is compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI’s 2nd Edition Manual.

PTISlab Win1.0 was also compliant with the expansive soil provisions in PTI’s 2nd Edition Manual.  This software is no longer available for purchase or download.



VOLFLO 

Using unsaturated soil mechanics theory, VOLFLO was developed to calculate the shrink and swell capabilities of clay soils.  VOLFLO can be used to determine the Edge Moisture Variation Distance (Em) and the Differential Soil Movement (Ym) required by PTI’s expansive soil analysis.  VOLFLO 1.5 is compliant with all versions of PTI’s standard and manuals since 2004.  
Some of the features of VOLFLO 1.5 are:

  • Determines the vertical movement (Ym) of the soil surface due unsaturated moisture flow.
  • Determines the edge moisture penetration distance (Em) based on unsaturated moisture flow and climatic conditions. 
  • Can be used to evaluate the effects of moisture barriers, both vertical and horizontal.
  • Can be used to evaluate the effects of nearby trees and water concentrations.
  • Allows input of differing soil layers and customized soil suction profiles.
  • Determination of the Suction Compression Index (γo) using the procedure prescribed in PTI’s standards and manual since 2004.
